My new office

Posted in Rants and Raves, Vendors on March 21st, 2007 by admin

I like a frappuccino as much as the next guy. I especially like the pesto turkey sandwiches. Starbucks has served me well over the years…not to mention the countless other wedding vendors as well. But now I have a new option. Now I will be able to bring my clients to a place where they will hear the music on my video instead of the buzzing of blenders. Now they can focus their attention on a big plasma screen rather than the other coffee drinkers around us. And I won’t have to show up worrying about finding a table or risk having to talk to my clients standing up.

So why didn’t I get an office sooner? Quite honestly - cost. Like most wedding vendors, we work out of our homes because we have everything we need right there. And most of our work can be done without a formal office. We do need to meet clients but that is really a small fraction of our time and so having to pay all that rent but only using it a few hours of the week just didn’t make sense.

As I mentioned, Starbucks has been host to many wedding professionals. One of those professionals is Kelly Sugano, wedding planner and owner of A Perfect Day. Kelly has taken it upon herself to launch a new company called: My Office, LLC. My Office will provide a professional environment for individuals who need office space for just a few hours a week. There are conference rooms as well as more intimate meeting rooms. Clients will be greeted in a comfortable reception area by the very peppy Mary Cachuela.

So put down that double venti espresso vanilla with soy milk and meet me at My Office.

Emcee extrordinaire

Posted in Vendors on March 14th, 2007 by admin

Big thanks to Devon Nekoba for coming out and speaking to us at our monthly NACE meeting. Formerly a DJ on FM100, Devon is a popular emcee for many of Hawaii event shows - including the Cherry Blossom festival. In fact, Devon married a Cherry Blossom Queen: Heather Suehiro. They had a beautiful wedding a few years ago and now are parents to a little girl.

Being one of my all time favorite couples, I still use their video as my sample. To see the sample clip, click below:

Breakfast at Tiffany’s

Hawaii Bride and Groom magazine launched their 15th anniversary issue today with “Breakfast at Tiffany’s”. Wedding vendors gathered together this morning at the Waikiki Tiffany’s store to celebrate. Leave it up to owner Julie Aragaki to put together such a posh event. Greeting us as we walked in was Chanel Wise, Miss Hawaii herself who is also featured in the magazine modeling some of the latest gowns. Also in attendance was Gavin Kobayashi who is the art director behind the magazine. He keeps making it better and better. I’m so proud to be associated with such a first class product.

That’s my bank.

This past week I got the chance to be involved with a Bank of Hawaii commercial. Whereas I am usually the one behind the camera, I got the chance to be in front of it. It was role reversal for me. Just like my brides, I was the one that needed to wake up early to get on set for makeup and wardrobe.

The 30 second commercial was directed by none other than Tim Savage. It’s always a pleasure to work with Tim. He’s got such incredible vision and yet remains one of the most humble people I know - not just in the industry but in life.

Things went very well. The weather was cooperative and we wrapped up by lunch time. Then all of us had lunch at “Little Village” in Chinatown. By the way, two big thumbs up for “Little Village”.
