Greatness in service

Posted in Personal, Rants and Raves on February 28th, 2007 by admin

Everybody can be great… because anybody can serve. You don’t have to have a college degree to serve. You don’t have to make your subject and verb agree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love.

Here comes the Hammers

Posted in Wedding on February 25th, 2007 by admin

I don’t know any other couple in the wedding industry that has as much fun as Shawnee (L’Elegance) and Greg Hammer. Although I’ve worked with them individually, tonight was the first time we were all together.

I’ve worked with most of the local comedians at various weddings. And Greg really stands out for this one reason: he is ALWAYS on. Of course, when a performer is on stage the show is on. But Greg is just a naturally funny guy on or off. He never ceases to entertain - even while we’re all sitting at the dinner table. You gotta love that. Another thing that I found out just recently about Greg is that the man can SING. No really! We went to see his show at Dave & Busters a few months ago and were blown away. You gotta see it to believe it.

With Shawnee and her girls (kudos to Kari and Melissa) in control, the event came off smooth as silk. From beginning to end, no one felt rushed so both the photographers (Russ and Lynn) and I got all the time we needed to do our best for the couple.

Thanks Shawnee and Greg for a fun night!

Why can’t they stay young?

Posted in Personal on February 23rd, 2007 by admin

The other day I was with my two daughters when we started talking about growing up. They talked about how one wants to own a salon and the other wants to work in a zoo. Then I told them that one day they will get married and leave mommy and daddy to live with their husbands. “That will break Daddy’s heart.”, I told them. It was a casual conversation but little did I know Tiare took that comment very seriously.

The next day, Tiare mentioned to my wife that she had cried after we tucked them into bed. “Daddy said that I will break his heart but I promise I won’t.”, she told my wife in tears. Wow - such innocence and unconditional love. That night, I told her of how proud I am of her. We assured her that we will always be there for her no matter what. And she fell asleep happy.

Showdown in Chinatown

Posted in Movies, Personal on February 22nd, 2007 by admin

Last week a group of us entered a short film into the “Showdown in Chinatown” contest. Every month, independant filmmakers in Hawaii come together to compete. A theme is given and each filmmaker needs to come up with an original story following those guidelines. In this situation, there needed to be a rock, a book and the phrase “It’s not as easy as it looks.” incorporated into the story.

Mark Ganialongo directed and produced our film and he did an outstanding job. Check it out!

Muchas Gracias to Sarah and Hector

Posted in Wedding on February 20th, 2007 by admin

A big muchas gracias to Sarah and Hector for having us that their wedding on President’s day 2007! Sarah was one of the most photogenic bride’s I’ve ever shot. I don’t know how many hours a day she spends in the gym but she was in tip top form…absolutely stunning. I had only met Hector on the day of the wedding but I could instantly see why Sarah was so in love with this guy. He was charming as can be. They made a picture perfect couple and that made for a beautiful video.

Hector is Mexican and Sarah is Hawaiian/Korean so the Sheraton Moana Surfrider prepared a mix of Hawaiian/Mexican food at the reception! We had white rice AND spanish rice! It was too cool! At the end of the reception, Hector’s best man started salsa dancing and everyone jumped in. It was a one of a kind wedding. The most impacting of all was the obvious love and respect - not only between the couple but among the entire family. It was an honor to be there.

I love canoe paddling

Posted in Personal on February 18th, 2007 by admin

Today I experience canoe paddling for the first time and I was instantly hooked. Being in the open ocean is an awesome feeling. The need to operate as a team to achieve the maximum speed is exilerating. I used to drive a convertable way back and I loved the wind flying by me…being in the canoe is just like that but on water! I’m stoked!

Cristina and Jason - Kawaihao Church

Posted in Wedding on February 6th, 2007 by admin

Cristina was probably one of those little girls who knew exactly how she wanted her wedding day to be like from the age of 5. After meeting the man of her dreams she enjoyed planning her wedding day. So it comes as no surprise that after the wedding, she started her own wedding related business.

It was quite an honor to be at her wedding. Especially knowing how extensively she researched each of her vendors. Her video came out beautifully and has become the all time most played video on my myspace.com site. You can check it out here:
